Wu Den-yih is a native of Nantou, Taiwan. His decades of public service also include stints as a legislator, vice chairman and secretary-general of the Kuomintang, and vice president of the ROC.

    Taiwan and mainland China confirm an arrangement allowing mainland residents to visit Taiwan proper as independent travelers; the first such travelers arrived on June 28, 2011. The three outlying islands of Kinmen, Matsu and Penghu are also opened to independent travelers on July 29, 2011.

    The Executive Yuan approves the 12-year national fundamental education plan, to be implemented in the 2014-2015 school year.

    Taiwan and Japan ink an arrangement for mutual cooperation on the liberalization, promotion and protection of investments. The arrangement is then approved by the Executive Yuan on September 29, 2011, ratified by the Legislature on November 22, 2011, and promulgated by the president on January 20, 2012.
