Description

In 1974, the government launched the Ten Major Construction Projects for transportation and heavy industries. Transportation projects covered the Port of Taichung, Port of Su-ao, Taoyuan international airport, North-Link Line railway, National Highway No. 1, and electrification of the Western Line railway. Heavy industry projects included steelworks, shipbuilding yards, the petrochemical industry, and nuclear plants. Apart from providing convenient transportation, those projects created many job opportunities, improved infrastructure construction in Taiwan, and boosted its economic development.
