Description

Premier Yu Hung-chun (first from left) listens as U.S. Secretary of State John F. Dulles (center) announces that the Sino-American Mutual Defense Treaty has taken effect. On March 3, 1955, Dulles and ROC Minister of Foreign Affairs George K.C. Yeh exchanged instruments of ratification for the treaty, which served as the legal foundation for the U.S. in assisting in Taiwan’s defense and preventing a Chinese Communist invasion of Taiwan.
