Premier Yu Shyi-kun hosts a meeting on SARS measures at local governments.
Description
The first case of the severe acute respiratory syndrome, or SARS, in Taiwan was confirmed in March 2003. By late April, hospital-acquired infections had been reported in Hoping Hospital and Jen Chi Hospital in Taipei.
To contain the growing epidemic, the Executive Yuan passed the Temporary Provisions for SARS Prevention and Relief on April 28, 2003. Thanks to the efficient response measures, Taiwan was removed from the list of SARS-infected countries far more quickly than many other countries.
