Premier Lin Chuan visits the Taiwan High Prosecutors Office to take part in the opening ceremony of the national narcotics database center and the Northern Taiwan Regional Anti-Drug Collaborative Unit. The premier said that the rapid movement of people and goods that globalization encourages has given rise to a growing problem with narcotics, as well as global efforts to combat the scourge. Taiwan considers fighting the harms of illegal drugs and the threat they pose to the people and society to be of the utmost importance to national development. To improve the nation’s efforts to combat, prosecute and prevent drug activities, the government has introduced a new-generation anti-drug strategy, which calls for applying new thinking and new methods to the fight against drugs. The strategy targets both people and quantities, and so it requires a large database together with inter-agency cooperation.
