Description

When the Wugu-to-Zhongli section of the Wugu-Yangmei Overpass opened on April 19, 2013, it made the entire overpass accessible to traffic. Construction for the 40-kilometer overpass on National Freeway No. 1 began in November 2009. Although the entire process from ratification of the overpass project to completion was scheduled for six years, crews finished it in just four years and two months—yet another proud achievement in Taiwan’s infrastructure history.

The new overpass effectively reduced traffic jams along the Taoyuan section of Freeway 1, making the commute between New Taipei City and Taoyuan City much easier. It saves drivers about NT$500 million in fuel annually and cuts 100 tonnes of carbon emission daily.
