Description

This inukshuk figure made from Canadian jade was gifted to Premier Chang San-cheng on March 22, 2016 by the Chin Wing Chun Society of Canada. The present was accepted by Vice Premier Duh Tyzz-jiun on the premier’s behalf. The nephrite jade that comes from the province of British Columbia is called “B.C. jade.” Also known as the “stone of heaven,” the translucent green gemstone comes in a pristine solid form. The soft green jade is mined each year in a period not exceeding 90 days, and is often hidden in brown and white boulders. Jade has been used for thousands of years by aboriginal people in Canada to make ax heads, knives and other tools and decorative items. Inukshuk stone landmarks are made from unworked rocks by the Inuit people to serve as navigational or hunting aids or as objects of veneration. The 2010 Winter Olympics featured the inukshuk figure as an official symbol of friendship and welcoming the world.
