About:
A native of Kaohsiung, Lin Chuan holds a master’s degree in public finance from National Chengchi University and a doctorate in economics from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in the U.S. Before being appointed premier, he served as a professor of public finance at National Chengchi University, a professor of economics at National Taiwan University, commissioner of Taipei City’s Department of Finance, minister of the Directorate-General of Budget, Accounting and Statistics, and minister of finance.

2016-06-23 The Executive Yuan approves a five-point promotional strategy and action plan for food safety.

2016-09-01 The Executive Yuan approves draft amendments to the Housing Act to promote social housing and ensure housing justice. The amendments were then approved by the Legislature on December 23, 2016 and promulgated by the president on January 11, 2017.

2016-10-06 The Executive Yuan approves draft amendments to the Long-Term Care Services Act to promote and ensure stable funding for the 10-year long-term care 2.0 plan. The amendments were approved by the Legislature on January 11, 2017 and promulgated by the president on January 26, 2017.

2016-10-20 The Executive Yuan passes draft amendments to the Electricity Act to push for transformation of the domestic energy sector. The amendments approved by the Legislature were promulgated by the president on January 26, 2017.

2016-11-20 The Executive Yuan approves a biomedical industrial innovation plan as part of the “five-plus-two” innovative industries policy.

2016-12-08 The Executive Yuan passes a draft of the Indigenous Languages Development Act. The draft is approved by the Legislature on May 26, 2017 and promulgated by the president on June 14, 2017.

2016-12-28 The Toxic and Chemical Substances Bureau begins operations to promote food safety management.

2017-03-30 The Executive Yuan approves a bill governing the retirement and pensions of public school teachers and employees. The bill approved by the Legislature was promulgated by the president on August 9, 2017.

2017-04-05 The Executive Yuan approves the Forward-looking Infrastructure Development Program.

2017-07-21 The Executive Yuan approves a new-generation anti-drug strategy guideline.

2017-08-25 After approving raises on September 12, 2016, the Executive Yuan again approves increases in minimum wage rates to NT$22,000 (US$727) per month and NT$140 (US$4.63) per hour, to take effect from January 1, 2018.

2017-09-01 Under Executive Yuan guidance, the Ministry of Finance proposes a tax reform package.
